A Rainy Day's Lunch

Hello sweet friends!

Today is a cold rainy Spring day in my neck of the woods, so I decided to make a tuna and spinach soufflĂ© with a barley soup hubby loves.

Anyway, here it is, I even arranged a pretty table with my vintage china with chrysanthemums and butterflies; butterfly napkin rings, some flowers in a white pitcher and even a fruit salad dessert with yogurt.

The custom here is to have a bigger lunch and a lighter supper, unless we go out for dinner.

If you wish the recipes are at the end of this post. The Barley soup is my Mil's recipe, that's why hubby loves it!

Here is lunch for a crispy rainy day.
The menu is a spinach, tuna soufflé and a barley soup.

'Recipes are at the end of this post.'

I served lunch on my vintage Asian china. The china has lots of Spring color flowers, plus butterflies in yellows and browns.

A close up of the dinner plate so you can see the colorful chrysanthemums and butterflies on the plate.

It's a vintage classic Oriental decoration and so is this complete china for eight place settings, plus teacups, teapot, sugar bowl, creamer and small dessert bowls shown here.

I've seen this pattern in several Asian Cookbooks.

The empty bowl is for dessert, it's smaller then what it looks in the pic.
I will serve fresh fruit with yogurt and walnuts for dessert.

Butterfly napkin rings to go with the china.

The barley soup was served in a soup bowl from the china, as it has 'soup plates' as well.

Thank you dear friends for your sweet and kind comments, you always make my day!

Thanking the lovely hostesses for having me at their great parties.

LOVE,
FABBY

BAKED TUNA SOUFFLE
2 tbsp. butter
3 tbsp. flour
1/4 tsp. salt
3/4 c. milk
1 can tuna
3 eggs

Make white sauce. Add to well-beaten egg yolks. Add tuna. Fold in whites, well beaten. Pour into buttered baking dish and bake in moderate oven until firm, about 45 minutes in 350 degree oven.
-PLUS I added cooked spinach cause we love it. Try about 1/2 cup for this recipe, but cut in half for two ramekins, or just make it on one small oven dish.

BARLEY HOMEMADE SOUP  (My Mil's recipe, she wrote two Ecuadorian cookbooks)

Recipe for two:

3/4 cup barley  (cook as directions in the package in the USA)
1 medium potato, peeled and cut in cubes
1/2 cup milk
1/2 cup grated fresh cheese  (optional, but we love it)
1 tablespoon chopped onion
Dash cumin
1/2 teaspoon garlic minced
Salt and pepper to taste
1/2 teaspoon of Saffron powder  (Goya)
Enough water to cook Barley
3 cups water for the soup

Directions:

Cook Barley with enough water.  (Follow directions on the box for the USA)

In a small pot put some olive oil to taste and cook the chopped onions, then add garlic, salt and pepper to taste, the cumin, saffron powder Goya and cook until the onion looks transparent. Now incorporate the water, the potato cubes and let them cook well.
Once potatoes are done add the cooked barley and let it cook for 10 minutes more.
Finally add milk and the cheese... which is optional, but hey, it's delish with it!

A Happy Spring Setting 2016

Hello sweet friends!

Since my  last table setting was focused more in the spirit of the Christian 'Holy Week' leading to 'Easter Sunday;' I now created a happy Spring table with pinks, greens and whites.

The china for this Spring spread is our oldest set from 1977. I always liked this 'Naomi Rose, Anchor Hacking' set which was for many years our every day and everything else china, lol..

Ok, with that said, here is my happy and cheery Spring 2016 setting.

Our first china from the 70's, 'Naomi Rose, Anchor Hacking.'

I formed each place setting with a white cotton with openwork 'framed' placemat.

The napkins and the runner are a set with big pink flowers, which sort of goes with the big pink flower in the china, as well.

Each soup bowl has a bird's nest with little quail eggs. The nests were a gift from a friend that made them for me with natural fibers.

The water stems are pink and purple, plus Mexican hand blown wine glasses.

The French soldier has a marmalade bowl, but hot sauce will be perfect for a dinner party too.

At the right side - Flowers, little candy box with birds, hurricane and bird salt shaker.

At the left side - Hurricane, vintage French soldier bowl, flowers and bird pepper shaker.

At center stage and flanked by two flower vases is my beautiful "Shannon Bohemian Crystal" cake stand with pedestal- made in Poland, I bought last June.

Thank you dear friends for your sweet and kind comments, you always make my day!

Thanking the lovely hostesses for having me at their great parties.

FABBY

March Rosary Gathering Tea

Hello sweet friends!

This Wednesday I'm hosting the 'Rosary gathering for March.'

I'm using my very old china because it's delicate and has small little blue rose buds and I kept the centerpiece with the cloches, with the cross and birds in nests, as it is the last Wednesday of this month and it fell right after Easter when 'He Has Risen...' and I think it's very appropriate to keep it from my last Easter table.

Yesterday after attending Easter mass, a nun came over to me to offer me the Holy Cross for me to keep it for a week at my home, so my family and me can receive the Lent season's blessings. I am thrilled to have it right at home with me, I feel blessed everyday!

Here is my Rosary setting for tea and simple gathering.
I will be praying with my friends for all of the ones that have required, I will not forget, you know who you are.

Have a blessed week my friends.

The queen of this Rosary setting is my new all lace tablecloth I fell in love with and had to come home with me.

I promised myself not to ever buy another table topper, but this one screamed 'take me with you!' I will never listen to this pleas again, ever! lol

Love the lace topper!

I will serve cheese in the brass pedestal and the glass beehive is for honey.

Bread will go in the silver basket, as tea serving is very humble.

Here you can see the small blue rose buds in the china's floral pattern.

Cheese will be served here too at the other end of the table as well.
Along with home made jam and bread. Tea or coffee.

My Mil's vintage iron cross.

The finishing edge of the lace tablecloth is lovely too.

Thank you so much for your sweet comments, you always make my day!

Thanking the gracious hostesses for having me at their great parties.

LOVE,
FABBY

Holy Week and Easter Table 2016

Hello sweet friends!

Well, I'm finally over with my cold and cough, it's been five days of a very uncomfortable situation.

I created a tablescape specially for Holy Week because there's a delicious harvest soup that it's served at Holy Friday. It's made of many fresh grains and it's served with a fish stew sort of and we call it 'escabeche.'

My table is not fun or cute cause I haven't those darling elements for Spring and the adorable bunny plates most of you have. Therefore, my table is centered in the religious spirit of Lent mostly with a centerpiece I created for this purpose, along with my mother's Polish 'Warvel' china she parted with in my behalf a couple of years ago; purple stems, purple chargers and under cloth.

We will be four this Holy Friday and perhaps Easter as well, along with mother and a friend.
It's amazing we're at the beginning of the Spring season and already around the corner from Easter Sunday!

Wishing you and yours a 'Peaceful Holy Week and a very Happy Easter.'

Many blessings for all of you my dear friends this Easter Sunday when HE is RISEN.

I used some purple for this Holy Week season in the stems, under cloth and the chargers are very purple but the pics don't give them justice, they look very dark.

'Warvel Polish' china my mom gave me couple of years ago.

The centerpiece has three cloches. One is with the cross and little sheeps under it and the others have nesting birds.

A close up. I hate all the glare, I even shot off the ceiling light.

The centerpiece tray evokes mostly the spirit of Lent.

A little Spring in the buffet, using green and pink.

Well, I guess there had to be a couple of mischievous rabbits on top of my tea chest.

'Warvel Polish' china and sunflower napkin ring for a Spring touch.

I placed underneath the lace tablecloth a purple cloth, which you can hardly see in the pics!

Thank you so much dear friends for your sweet comments, you always make my day!

Thanking the lovely hostesses for having me at their great parties.

FABBY

Don't You just Love Teapots?

Hello sweet friends!

I have a cold, which is getting better, so I've being in bed for four days.

Looking thru Pinterest the other day I saw a picture with many teapots on top of the dinner table, so I said to myself, what a great idea to take pictures with most of my teapots... I say most because I have an Oriental collection of eight, (they're all alike in different patterns), so I'm showing the different kind ones and mostly in porcelain, leaving the silver ones for another time.

Here they are... I was playing a little bit.
Hope to decorate for Easter next week.

Happy First Day of Spring 2016 everyone!

This pottery one, with a sheep on the lid is from our past ceramic company.

Up front a couple of antique ones from WWI, the Chinese with the dragon handle and from WWII the German one next to it... they both belong to teasets.

Most belong to tea sets and chinas.

Another hand decorated and with a little sheep on the lid.

Have a wonderful week ahead and Happy Easter.

Thank you for your sweet comments, you always make my day!

Thanking the lovely hostesses for having me at their great parties.
