Hi my lovely ladies from all over the world! I hope you had a terrific 4th. OF JULY today, Wednesday the 4th. I will be going out for dinner with friends, so mine it's not over yet!! Hope you all had lots of hot-dogs, lol..
I made a salmon with veggies steamed in a bamboo steamer basket I always wanted to try and was curious about. I bought it while I was visiting my grands for Victoria's birthday, which I will post too one of these days. I always wanted to make something in this steamer, besides the fact that it's healthier, with Omega3, Fatty Acid and lighter all the way!! I thought of Marty, from A Stroll Thru Life, while cooking cause she always makes great and light recipes lately..it only takes 10 minutes to cook and it's way delish! It was fun to cook everything all at once and so fast too. Very interesting and fun, besides, now I understand why orientals are so thin!!
Here are the veggies I put in it with nothing on, just wash them and that's it! You can add any dressing later.
Here are the two pieces of salmon I had marinated and left in the fridge for two hours in a Ziploc bag with the following: 2 Tablespoons of soy sauce, 1 teaspoon brown sugar, pepper to taste, 4 fresh and mashed garlic cloves, 1 teaspoon Olive oil and finally 2 Tablespoons water. (I added no salt cause soy sauce is enough for me, though). While it's in the fridge turn the salmon a couple of times Than take it out and in the first tier basket place a piece of parchment paper and on top the salmon with a little of the marinate-liquid.
I added two pieces of red pepper, or more if you wish.
Now I have in the bottom tier basket my veggies and in the top one, my salmon..cover and let steam on top of the wok with a little water on, and the basket goes on top..just like you would any other steamer, though. After only 10 minutes it's perfect and dinner is ready.
Here is what this dish looks like and take my word for it..IT IS YUMMY!! You could add to your plate some white cooked rice, or just like the one I served for me..hubby loves it with the rice too!
Very healthy and light in calories. You can do pork pieces with vegetables, chicken breast and shrimp too. I bet anyone will even loose weight eating this way, lol..
Thanks my terrific friends for your generous and kind comments you always leave me and I receive them with a big smile as I appreciate them so very much!!

Hi Fabby. Wow, I've heard of steaming food in these baskets but didn't know it cooked that fast. It looks so delicious and healthy. Thanks for sharing the cooking tips. Have a great day!

I have never used a steamer like this but will be looking for one soon! We have an international grocery store we like to shop for veggies and fresh fish. We call it 'The STINKY Store!' Bet they will have these steamers there.
ReplyDeleteWe are going back to eating healthy low fat low calorie meals. Funny how weight LOST will come BACK when you quit eating so healthy!!
Hi Fabby. Happy 4th to you. Your salmon looks wonderful with the veggies. I have also used my bamboo steamer to cook salmon. XO Linda
ReplyDeleteWe adore salmon Fabby and what a healthy way to cook it. thanks, olive
ReplyDeleteHi Fabby, I have always been interested in trying one of these steamers, and you have taken the mystery out of it for me so now I can try it. I like using lemon to kill the smell of many things and this is another great way to ue that delicious citrus! Thanks for the ideas! Linda
ReplyDeleteWow! I will have to try this, Fabby. Looks delish. I have to go on a diet cause I gained so much weight having so many guests and trips lately. I know I have a bamboo steamer somewhere that I haven't used. Happy 4th!...Christine
ReplyDeleteUna receta muy saludable ideal para no aumentar e peso.

Hello, dear Fabby. I loved your post tonight. I love salmon and veggies and this sure sounds delicious cooked in the bamboo steamer. I am going to try this very soon (as soon as I can find a bamboo steamer!) We have a small Oriental grocery store near our mall here that may have them. It is healthy cooking, for sure!
ReplyDeleteI never did get a chance to comment on your Fourth of July table-scape, so I also wanted to add that I thought you had done such a beautiful job of arranging the table for one of our favorite holidays...yes, the hot dogs and whole nine yards!!! LOL
Have a happy up-coming weekend.
Big hugs and love, Francy
It look delicious.

Wish I could have joined you far this feast. Nothing like a good serving of salmon.
ReplyDeleteThat looks just wonderful! Next time I see a set of the steamer baskets for sale, I just might have to indulge!
ReplyDeleteI used to use a bamboo steamer all the time back in the days of big house and family. I'm afraid there isn't any room for for such a large piece of equipment any longer. My late husband used to love to make pot stickers in one. Now that my girls are living elsewhere and I live alone, I still steam, but in a very small pot with an even smaller insert!
ReplyDeleteYour meal looks delicious and healthy. Here in the Northwest, salmon is plentiful, and affordable and often on the menu.
Lovely post, Fabby, as always.
Now I am hungry and you are to blame hahaha.
ReplyDeleteThank you for joining Color Connection last week. Come and join this week, the linky is up now.
