FABBY: New Vignette and Asparagus Pie

Hello sweet friends!

Hope you all had a wonderful Mother's Day weekend. I went out with mother and Alejandro for brunch and we had a lovely time. Than we went shopping with my mom for her to choose her present and she chose a beautiful pair of earrings in silver with touches of gold. Another important holiday is over, now we'll have to wait for Father's Day; that should be fun too!

Last Friday I made for mother and Alejandro a Asparagus Pie, specially cause Mr. Living is so partial to any kind of pies, the sweet fruit kind as well as the salty ones.

I also re-decorated my Mil's parents antique English buffet with my Onion blue and white tea set, which is part of my complete dinner china. The friends that follow me remember that before, I had my red transfer ware tea set displayed here...you know how we can get tired of looking at the same things and now that Father's Day is approaching, the blue is in! Ok, here it is, hope you like it.

I never change the Foo-dogs, though, cause actually, Alejandro loves them and I do too. The blue and white urn, at your left, is French.

This is how it was for nine months, prior to my new change in blue and white Onion china.

The other day, while I was at the drugstore I found these cute faux food, lol.. I love them inside my High Tea cloche.

I arranged the faux-cupcake and donut in my Mil's nesting tables.
I also incorporated my new vintage English teapot with gold in the new tray vignette. This Foo-dog at your left is a male, holding a blue ball.

I love indoor plants.

Look at the pretty blooms in the terracotta pot I added.
Looks like more blooms are coming out! I had this pot and others at my kitchen window sill for more than 1 1/2 years. The Foo-dog here is the mother..notice she has a puppy next to her and the blue ball.

The sugar sterling and porcelain spoon was a gift my dear Sister in law brought me from her trip to France, for my B'day last Oct., perfect for this china!

The linen hand embroidered tray-mat was a gift from my dear Mil several years ago and I love it that is blue and white, it's perfect here! I have two and the other is in the Belgium buffet.
Last Friday mother and Alejandro had lunch with me, so I made this great 'Asparagus and Leek pie,'  that I copied from a blogger friend and right now I don't know who it was. Thank you anyway. The recipe is at the end of this post.

We also had cream of veggies and salad with the pie for lunch with my mother and hubby. My everyday dishes are 'Country-made in Spain.' The chargers are with a pretty cane woven center and from Thailand.

ASPARAGUS and LEEKS PIE

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 leek (white and light green parts only), halved and thinly sliced, then well washed
  • Coarse salt and ground pepper
  • 1 bunch (1 pound) asparagus, tough ends removed, thinly sliced on the diagonal (I use a can of asparagus sometimes, as opposed to fresh ones)
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 1/4 cups half-and-half
  • Ground nutmeg
  • 6 bacon strips, fried and cut into bits
  • Our Favorite Pie Crust, fitted into a 9-inch pie plate, well chilled
  • 1 cup shredded Gruyere cheese (4 ounces)

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees, with rack in lowest position. In a large skillet, melt butter over medium. Add leek and asparagus; season with salt and pepper. Cook, stirring occasionally, until asparagus is crisp-tender, 6 to 8 minutes; let cool.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together eggs, half-and-half, 1/2 teaspoon salt, teaspoon pepper, and a pinch of nutmeg. Place pie crust on a rimmed baking sheet. Sprinkle with cheese; top with asparagus mixture. Pour egg mixture on top. Sprinkle with bacon bits.
  3. Bake until center of quiche is just set, 50 to 60 minutes, rotating sheet halfway through. Let stand 15 minutes before serving.

Cook's Note

To make sure the vegetables are distributed evenly, spread them in the crust before pouring in the egg mixture.

Thank you so much for coming by to visit me, my friends, as you always make my day!

Thanking the lovely and gracious hostesses for having me at their great parties, every week.

FABBY: Happy Mother's Day 2013

Hello my sweet friends!

First of all I want to emphasise that I am very blessed to have my dear 'mama' with me still. She is my good friend, I enjoy been with her very much, she is 83 at present.
Mother and I are only girls, therefore, we never had a sister to go visit. We both are very fortunate, though, to have wonderful friends and I, great sister in laws, as well!

This table is in honor of my dearest mother, my friends and sister in laws and of course YOU, my lovely blog friends, as you are a great bunch of ladies and very much part of my life for two and some years and I consider myself very fortunate to have met you all, to know you, as you inspire me everyday with the wonderful things you all do and create to embellish more our nests and the encouragement I receive from you and my fav part of my days is when I visit your beautiful homes, through my "cybernetic box,"  lol...

Wishing all you ladies a wonderful and a very Happy Mother's Day 2013, along with your dear families.  GOD bless you.

My dearest mother and best friend, Yolanda 83 at present and doing quite well!

Here is my Mother's Day table scape for 2013.

I used here my 'English red transfer-ware' salad plates, as I don't have dinner plates in the red.
I've decided to use my salad plates, serving pieces and teacups for my Mother's Day table setting and pair them with my Italian Tognana dinner plates, as these have Little roses in pink, which matches pretty nicely, along with brown chargers.

I decided to use this gorgeous German urn, hand decorated in pink roses; as a centerpiece. The friends that follow me might remember Alejandro gave me for Mom's Day two years ago.

Love the English-Staffordshire tea pot in this corner.

The German urn is flanked by two small crystal flower vases.
The fish knife is resting on a silver 'cat-knife' rest.

I love the red transfer-ware serving platter.

The brown charger with the 'Italian Tognana' dinner plate with pink roses.

The red transfer-ware salad plate.
A pink Polish Sherbet with a rose folded napkin inside it. I was lucky that these napkins also had a lace leaf in each, so I left them out for a perfect touch to the rose, and with a little thingies green ribbon.

Close up of one of the two crystal flower vases.

Here you can appreciate the hand decorated roses and lilacs in the urn. I also wanted to use these very pretty white lace place mats.

One of the two salad bowls I have in red transfer-ware. Wish I had dinner-in red too!

A shot from inside the kitchen.

The sherbets could be for serving 'ceviche' or 'shrimp cocktail...'or ice-cream, or fruit salad for dessert! Next to the knife, a 'shell shaped spoon' for such use.
The other red transfer-ware tea pot, at your right is, 'Wedgwood-Ports of London.'

I bought a few years ago a set of four purple Polish sherbets and water glasses and...

four pink as well...as I love the two colors together.

Here you have it, my Mother's Day table scape for 2013.

Wishing you lovely ladies and all your dear mothers in your families, a wonderful and blessed Mother's Day this year!

Thank you so much for all your sweet and kind comments, my friends, as you always make my day!

I will also be joining some wonderful ladies, which host fabulous parties. Thank you very much for having me.

LOVE,
FABBY

FABBY: Fiesta del 5 de Mayo

Hello Sweet friends!

I never knew about the "Mexican holiday of the 5 de Mayo" before I started to blog and I've seen so many fabulous tables with the Mexican theme..I kind of blame it from growing up in NY, as in my time you never heard, hardly of Mexico in the East Coast.
There were no Mexican restaurants of fast food, or anything of the kind. I learned about the culture and food when I lived for almost a year in LA when I was single.
Anyway, here is my first venture in a 5 Mayo tablescape, which I call it an Ecua-Mex table, as most elements here are from Ecuador, lol!

I was very much inspired in my "Macana" we call it here and "IKAT" tablecloth, which is how it's known all over the world. Everything is made by hand in natural woven wools and with natural vegetable dies, by people that are experts in this craft. They are made like "tie died" (ikat) and mainly for the use of shawls for the women and some men shirts by "Indigenous people of Ecuador."

I had a tablecloth made for my round table of two remnants shawls I had; after Alejandro had made some pieces, many years ago for upholstery, and we used it for some bar chairs and a grandfather recliner, which is the only one we have now, as the bar chairs I re-upholstered them last year, along with the couches in our den.

The dishes I used here were made here in Cuenca-Ecuador, at out former Ceramic Co., Monte Turi. I explained in the past that the designs are inspired, again, in the 'Indigenous people's embroidered apparel from Ecuador'.

Anyway, I hope you like my 'first attempt at a "5 de Mayo" table setting'.

Here is the "Macana" tablecloth which inspired me to make my first 5 de Mayo tablescape. Aren't the colors and pattern just great!

I used dishes made by us back at our Ceramic Co. Monte Turi.

The pewter chargers are Mexican.
I almost forgot to add my Camino Real Tequila, ha!

The stems are hand blown in Mexico. The blue glasses we have since 1975, when we got married. We bought around 20 for a party and now I only have 6 left !!

This Camino Real Tequila bottle with the Mexican hat and serape, so cute!

I read in Internet that Mexican actress Salma Hayek had made to order 12 shawls like this one, but in different patterns and colors for herself, here in Ecuador. I put together two shawls to make the tablecloth. Alejandro thinks this type of hand made textile craft it's a dying art, I would say...like everything made by hand in the world. Look at our hand made and decorated dishes, there are no more!

The salsa bowl with a little wooden spoon.

Aren't the color of these peppers and chilies, bright and pretty? I thought they'll be great instead of flowers for this table.

For a centerpiece I decorated a tray with a terracotta pot with a cute plant, four different color peppers and chilies, in a terracotta glazed hand made bowl, by us, and an oil, vinegar, salt and pepper ceramic carrier. Look at the little chili- pepper toothpick holder, I found around my stuff...I never used it, I wonder if people put them in tables, lol..
I placed in the small ceviche bowls a cute chili-pepper.

The cups are for chocolate, as they're larger than usual teacups. The inside was left in glazed terracotta color and it looks like hot chocolate is inside, already! They were also made back at our company.

I love the bird decoration in the cup's saucer.
Here is another pattern of the big cups and saucers, for hot chocolate.

Ok, here you have it..my first 5 de Mayo, 2013, Mexican holiday table setting.

Thank you my dear friends for your wonderful comments, as you always make my day!
