FABBY: Family Room Artwork

We were so lucky to inherit this beautiful painting form my Mil, by a famous Latin American naive artist, Gonzalo Endara Crow, he died after battling cancer at 58 in 1998...he used to call his work: "Magic Realism".  His beautiful and colourful paintings were extracted from the indigeneous apparel,  (like my dishes) from flower petals, scattered in the Nativity Processions, from fire works castles, from hot air balloons, and from rustic trains and rural homes in the Andes and the coast region, as our painting is.  This are homes made of cane to be cool in hot climate and by the rivers and the Pacific Ocean and the Virgin Mary's procession is taking place in the ocean on a canoe.  This one used to be my mil's favorite painting at her home, she had a few famous ones. Gonzalo E. Crow won many awards, like No. 1 Biennial artist and best Naive Artist, thruout many countries in Europe, Latin A. and Japan.
This is our family room, where we read, watch movies, on the weekends, etc.  This is how the painting looked before when we inherited from my mil in front of the mantel with the Delft things.
The new mantel arrangement and frame, which is colonial style, carved by hand in wood and covered in "gold lief" by local artisans. The blue and white ginger jar is Delft, Holland, hand painted, it came as a set with two beautiful flower vases...you can see them in the before picture.
This very modern lamp we bought it last year from Kartell, designed by Phillip Stark. The silver bowl was my hubby's grandmother's.  The silver frame was a Christmas gift from our daughter Sofia.  oops! the stain in the moire curtain is drying, we had them washed...
The native women statue carrying a basket and baby and the colourful corn was designed by the artist Gonzalo E. Crow and made at our former Ceramic Co.
A wider view of our family room, which is adjacent to our formal living room, therefore, we can have lots more guests at once!

This artwork was a numbered silk scarf, a limited collection by Peter Max, he did than, from his pictures (it was mine)  in the 70's and my hubby loved it and had it framed...he thinks it represents to it's best our generation.
All the way up there, in the right hand wall, there's two French collages I bought in Paris in the early 70's when I was there in my single years...sight...
A close up of the gold frame and painting, such great hand work.
 The entire frame.
A close up of the painting.  You can see the Virgin Mary in the canoe!  The small cane houses on pillards on the water.
Here's the TV side bellow, with the Peter Max artwork.  I'm showing you this part because we want to buy a flat screen TV and have it built in with wood as the fire place and hide those awful cables!!
The artist had most of his paintings done in the  Spanish design frames like this, from  colonial times.  My mil just kept it like it came.  Hope you like the way it is now, oppose to how it was!  Thanks to all the wonderful hostesses of the parties I've joined.  A thousand thanks to all my blog friends who always leave me wonderful comments!  I thank you very much in advance.  Love always.

FABBY: My Pink Tablescape

Congratulations to Beverly on the third anniversary of this great party, "Pink Saturday"... and thank you for  hosting it  every week!
The tablecloth is made by hand in Bruxels, Belgium...I bought it, in the late 80's, thinking of my oldest daughter's First Communion, eventually.  I used a plain pink one under it.
This pretty bowl for candy, or chocolates, was made in our former Ceramic Co., it has a hand made bird with pinks.
The rose candle holder was hand made at our former  Ceramic Co.  The crystal candle stick is Chzeck, Bohemian.
You can see up front the serving pieces, everything comes in pairs, as this china has 16 place settings.
The back of the girl showing her black braids.
The center piece is a porcelain Tureen also made at our former Ceramic Co.
This woven, ceramic basket with pink florets was made by us too, in the 80's.
The layers of dishes.  The charger is hand painted in Turkey.
Here is the  dinner and salad plate...you can see the flowers and buds in pink, it also has the borders in brown and gold.
This pretty figurine of a native girl, carrying a bucket of water, was hand made by an artist we had in the 80's working for us.  The girl is wearing an "embroidered blouse and pink skirt"...this are the cloths I got the inspiration for the dishes I've posted before.
Another figurine with a girl in a pink embroidered skirt and a shawl; weaving "Panama hats", the very ones that were always made here in Ecuador...I mean, NOT in Panama.
Sometimes even I am surprised at the pretty things we used to make at our former Ceramic Co.  I love this tureen with the bird and pink flowers.
The stemware is Bormiolli, made in Italy.
A close up of the pretty tea set.  The little flower base was made by us too.

I made this tablescape with one of my favorite dishes, because it has little pink flowers and buds on it. I bought it many years ago, in the early 90's and it has 16 places, I bought 2 boxes of 8, it was not expensive, I think maybe $90 each box, but than, we were going to have our oldest daughter's First Communion, so I needed lots of dishes!    Hope you like it.

FABBY: Chinese Takeout

This cute tea set with elephant tea pots and elephant cups and saucers I bought very many years ago, I thought it was so cute!
A clear shot of the elephant little cup.
The rectangular platter with hand decorated flowers were made at our former Ceramic Factory.
This tea pot has a boy on the lid.
Here is the charger with the blue  square plate and the lions handle white soup bowl.
I used this pretty plant from the "fern" family to give it an oriental look to the table.
 The flower decorated platters.
The cobalt chargers with the three square plates, a white, yellow and blue. The entire tablescape. The chinese place mats I bought in Pier I, very many years ago in N.Y.C.
The elephant tea cups and one of the 8 cups and saucers the set came with.

I took this photos this morning, before lunch with my mother every wednesday, as I had lots of things to do  with my hubby, pertaining to our imports business.  I  made a simple tablescape with square plates in solid colors, I put them on top of cobalt blue chargers and with two  flowered rectangular platters,... all this were made at our former Ceramic Factory. The white onion soup bowls with the lion handels, I bought them for 79 cts. each a few years  ago, so I gave my two daughters, 8 each and I kept 8 myself.  I love them for cream soups or, tomato soup with a hot  cheese sandwich  in cold nights. Today we had chinese take out because I  had no time for cooking.  The chinese food was great,  chicken egg drop  soup, fried rice with chicken and shrimp, wanton skins, chinese noodles with vegetables and green tea to wash down the food.

FABBY: A Country Tablescape

I bought this Spanish china in beige with soft brown strokes here and there, to give the plates an old, faded look...it was called "Country Look".....since it's kind of boring, I decided to pair it with some pieces that were made at our former Ceramic Factory.  The design was the very first pattern  and shapes the Spaniards made in colonial times here in Ecuador, using the wheel, or shaping them by hand, instead of using molds, so my hubby and me made them in the same way, except with modern materials.
The flowers and the base I chose for this country style tablescape.
The base is hand decorated at our former ceramic factory.  The ambar glasses was my mil's present for one of my birthdays, they're 12.
The salad bowl, the creamer and sugar bowl, they're all part of the Spanish china.
I love this cheese dish with  lid, that has a black and white cow on top!  This beige china came with mugs instead of cups, I paired them with cup plates from the green designed china.
The green napkin ring was made at our ex-Ceramic Factory too and it has a little bird on it.
The canister with a lid that has a sack of coffee and a vintage silver spoon, in the "spoon rest"; we made it for instant coffee, or coco, to display it on the table on something pretty, instead of the jar from the store.  The little bowl is for marmolade.
I little rooster in the green napkin ring...so cute! The napkins I bought new, from a hotel that close down, they wash great!
A better view of the table setting.  The center piece has a part with a basket weave design to it.  I ut a plant when there's no flowers.
The place mat, is in brown, Chinese, straw handwoven, forming scallops.
The chargers are ceramic made at our past Ceramic Factory.  This is an original Spanish design from colonial times.
The Spanish country beige dinner plate and the green and white salad plate.  The flatware is from 1975, bought in Bloomingdales, NY...very modern in those days, with an oriental look.
The place setting, plus the beige soup bowl and rooster napkin ring.
I  used colourful flowers bought on sale for $1,90 at the supermarket, in a beautiful center piece with a kind of basket weave and hand decorated, also made in our past Ceramic Factory.  Hope you like it.
