Hey there sweet friends!
Here to celebrate and wish you a great 'Fat Tuesday'...errr...I mean, 'Bon Mardi Gras.'
I'm sure the fabulous Creole, French Quarters in Beautiful New Orleans is celebrating the spectacular "Carnivale of Mardi Gras!"
Carnivale!
"One commonly accepted derivation of the word "carnival" (or carnivale) is the Latin "carne vale" or "farewell to meat."
Carnival was the final hurrah as winter headed towards spring, and the long Lenten season of fasting and abstinence. It was, perhaps, not only a last chance to indulge the passions of the flesh, but an opportunity to consume any meat which had been put up for winter that might not stay fresh enough for consumption until spring brought the end of Lent and Easter."
I'm quoting this from our good and missed friend Bill from blog Affordable-Accoutrements.
My tablescape to celebrate 'Carnivale' all over the world is here and I was inspired by purples and aquas, in the way of tablecloths, glasses and dishes.
My last hurrah day is today ,Fat Tuesday, which I will be indulging with coffee, wine and lots of cheeses. All these will come to an end for Lent.
My last hurrah day is today ,Fat Tuesday, which I will be indulging with coffee, wine and lots of cheeses. All these will come to an end for Lent.
...and without further ado, here is my 'Mardi-Gras' inspired setting.
Let the good times roll!
Let the good times roll!
The china I used in this Mardi Gras spread is my vintage aqua 'Limoges,' mother gifted me several years ago. |
The four masks in each place set belonged to my DD's when they were kids. |
Burnt orange chargers are used...and masks, of course! |
Amber wine glasses with Polish purple water glasses |
When I first started blogging many of you used to do the most amazing tables for this occasion; specially our friend Bill, from 'Affordable Accoutrements,' who was a table scaper, extraordinaire. He hasn't posted in more than two years and he is very missed.
Bill was my inspiration for my blogging beginnings and for my 'first' Mardi-Gras scape.
So let the good times roll! Happy Mardi Gras 2015
Of course, some face masks, like the feather one here. |
I'm really loving the purple and amber glasses together...don't you? |
By candle light only. |
Amber and pearls napkin holder. A queen face mask. |
I've never visited fabulous New Orleans on "MARDI-GRAS" and I would love to someday. In the meantime, here is my tablescape in honor of this Carnival in the spectacular 'French Quarters!' Let the good times roll! You know I'm so happy and thankful when you leave me such sweet and kind comments, since you always make my day! ReplyDeleteThis is your first Mardi Gras tablescape???? You sure have the goods for it. I need to find some of this big, feather-y masks. Love them.
ReplyDeleteI've never seen anyone gather their round tablecloth in the center. That really catches the eye. I'll have to remember that one!
Let the good times roll!
What a fun and colorful table, Fabby! Just great, as always! And how dear of you to remember our dear friend Bill, whom I also still miss. I emailed him several months ago to check in on him and he simply said he's fine, so I was at least glad to hear from him. I hope everyone is now well. Con carinos, ~Zuni
ReplyDeleteWhat lovely colors on your table. I always imagine you with a huge storage area for all your "props" and decorations for your wonderful tables that you decorate. They are truly a feast for the eyes!

Your tablescape is gorgeous and so very festive, Fabby! I enjoyed reading about the background of Mardi Gras too. Thanks for sharing! :)
ReplyDeleteThough I'm no expert on entertaining, decorating or fine living, I truly believe you are at the top of the list when it comes to all three!
ReplyDeleteYou have the "eye", the resources, and the talent - gift, really - to make any and ALL occasions FABulous!

Wow, Fabby! Let the good times roll!! Love your green, gold and purple table with the masks .. perfect and fun for Mardi Gras.
ReplyDeleteFabby, this is so fabulous - the interpretive history, first of all. I immediately noticed the way you gathered that base cloth, and hoped you would explain - brilliant, with a bracelet! All the layers & details would never hint at the fact that you've not been to NO at Mardi Gras. You make it look as though you do this every year! Happy Fat Tuesday!

You have set a fun table, Fabby. I don't know much about Mardi Gras only that it is a big celebration in New Orleans. I love your tea set on the buffet. Reminds me of springtime which I am longing for. Thank you for joining me for tea and have a lovely day.

How much fun! Love how colorful it is, and the trick of gathering the tablecloth at the center. Cute masks too! I had a paczki today, which is a custom around here for Fat Tuesday -- a Polish jelly filled donut, as the last hurrah before Lent.
ReplyDeletePerfect Mardi-Gras table, Fabby. I love it. xo Laura
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun table! I also aspire to visit New Orleans one day.
ReplyDeleteDearest Fabby,
ReplyDeleteNo feasting on any fatty foods for Shrove Tuesday or Mardi Gras for both of us. We adhere very strict to our diets!
Love your table setting though and yes, the amber and purple glasses look perfect together!
Sending you hugs,
Mariette
You did an outstanding job Fabby! I love it.

ReplyDeleteWow... So colourful. The table looks so pretty. . Lucky are the ones who dine on it. Love it. Enjoy the day. Love and hugs Sujatha:):)
When I saw the thumbnail in the link-up, I thought your table was a differently decorated king cake!
ReplyDeleteMardi Gras in New Orleans is fabulous ;) But then again, it's fabulous all across the Gulf Coast ;)
Wow Fabby, you nailed this Mardi Gras tablescape. The colors and carnival masks are all perfect for this celebration and sets an amazing table. I have to say I really love the china pattern too. I am always inspired with your tables.
ReplyDeleteHi Fabby: Only one would be able to set such a wonderful table for Mardi Gras. You are amazing. Love all the colors and the masks. Have a wonderful week. Hugs, Martha

ReplyDeleteBeautiful! Love how you gathered the tablecloth! Love the plates and chargers. Valerie
ReplyDeleteAmazing Fabby! I love the colors in this and how you designed it! The face masks are my favorite! The orange chargers make it all pop- love it!!
ReplyDeleteThis table is over-the-top fantastic! The very best Mardi Gras table that I have seen. Gathering the fabric and securing it with a bracelet is pure genius. Those masks are just perfect. Everything comes together so beautifully here. Great job!
ReplyDeleteWonderful table! Love all of the orange.
ReplyDelete- Alma, The Tablescaper
Wonderful...perfect colors, the masks are great. Great representation of Mardi Gras!
ReplyDeleteOh this is so much fun! Mardi gras sort of slipped by us this year - but will make a note for next year- Laissez les bon temps rouler!
ReplyDeleteWow loving the colours and theme Fabby! I hope you and family are all well, such a treat for me to have a little time to myself to blog again - Keri x
ReplyDeleteWow, very fancy table. I am sure your guests had a fabulous time. Thanks for linking up with OMHG. Hope to see you next week.
ReplyDeleteSo festive and stunning, Fabby! I love how you did the tablecloth. Beautiful centerpiece and clowns.....Christine
ReplyDeleteI can well imagine the fun that would be had around that table. For me, that's the thing - would I want to be there. A table can be beautiful, but not inviting - this one has it all. It says "laissez les bons temps rouler!"
ReplyDeleteLiving up to your name with this Fabulous Mardi Gras tea. I have been to New Orleans but never for this special event. Here in my part of the world the locals celebrate Fasnacht by making donuts. Donut Tuesday as some call it is a PA. Dutch tradition. I found this explanatioon on the Dig It website....
ReplyDelete"The word for these Pennsylvania German donuts is Fashnacht, although it literally means “fast night" the day before you fast for Lent on Ash Wednesday. Faschnacht is spelled different ways because the language was not yet written. They are not round with a hole in the center. They are square, which represents the four gospels in the Bible, or triangular, which represents the Trinity." Probably more than you wanted to know.... LOL
Oh, Fabby! I'm always in awe of your gorgeous tables capes. I think you captured the colorful essence of Mardi Gras perfectly! Thanks so much for sharing at my Creative Ways Link Party. I hope you'll be back again this week!
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Nici
Another Fabbylous (couldn't resist) tablescape! Love those purple glasses and those face masks are perfect. I can't believe they are in such good shape after your children played with them. Thanks for sharing this at What We Accomplished Wednesdays! Have a super week!
