I got a small metamorphosis in our den and here's why. Our dear daughter Alexandra just moved to the city our other daughter Sofia and the g'girls live. This city has a hot climate all year round..like hot and hotter! In Alexandra' new apartment, and because of the warm weather, she thinks she doesn't want any rugs, not even areal rugs. I think she's right, besides the fact she wants to decorate it a little more on the modern, or go more eclectic, which is great I think , for a young woman.
She decided to send us this gorgeous Belgium silk rug she had in her previous apartment . She thought it would go nice with our den's yellow couches and black and white marble floor. Alejandro and I are totally thrilled with it, it looks perfect and the room looks so much more elegant! Our den and living room are next to each other, so when we have lots of guests, they can all be very close to each other and mingle better. Therefore, I like it that it's more elegant and gives also the impression that it's larger.
Take a look, hope you like it.
Here it is with the coffee table, it stil looks great. |
Since this is a bigger rug than the old one, the room looks larger, as it's fitting the floor's width in full. |
Here it seems like you can see more of the soft yellow in the rug next to the chairs. |
I love the center medallion, although the coffee table covers it somewhat. |
The Before wool rug was smaller and I would have not changed it, but after this gorgeous present we "inherited" from sweet daughter Alexandra, we're happier. |
At your far left you can see a little of the yellow in the rug. |
The four corners of the rug looks like this. Notice a little of the black insets and white marble floors, so the rug looks pretty against it, as the floor has totally more white. |
We are really so happy with how it looks and the silk is very shiny and elegant in real life..besides the fact that you can see the light yellow better too, of course. Thank you my sweet, sweet and generous friends for all the wonderful comments you leave me..they always put a smile on my face! ReplyDeleteHi Fabby! Well, I am back to blogging and I have missed your wonderful posts. Now as for that awful old rug that looks so bad there? I think you must box it up and send it to me immediately!;>)
ReplyDeleteok-just kidding....it is a gorgeous rug. My friend, Mary, has a couple of the silk rugs and they are just beautiful. Yours is very elegant looking, Fabby. I hope your daughter does well in her new place- xo Diana
Dearest Fabby,
ReplyDeleteThat silk rug looks like being made to match your floor and furniture. Perfect and that's a great deal for replacing the woolen rug you had. Is it a Belgian rug made of rayon? We got two smaller pure silk rugs from Kashmir. They are so fine and have a great sheen. Love the feel of them. Pieter has been to Kashmer and watched the little boys knot the fine silk ones. Later, because of eyesight loss (they work almost in the dark...!) they switch to the finer wool and than to the heavier wool. Sad fact.
Enjoy this new addition.
Hugs to you,
Mariette

Thank you my sweet friend Francy. You know I love your two cents, as you sure tell me the real thing, lol..Yeah, we're loving the new rug and yep, in real life it's a little more yellow, but it is, cause in the pics it looks kinda baige..but no, it's a soft yellow with black. Alex had the rug for two years only, she bought it just cause she really fell for it, but now she changed her mind...sooo lucky we are! You too hon, have a happy and safe week ahead.

Isn't it a funny feeling when our children begin to give us their "cast-offs" instead of the other way round? We give to them for so many years, then suddenly they begin to give to us. My daughter and I have such different taste in design, yet we both love beautiful things. For example ,I have very ornate antique silver, she didn't want it, so she bought herself a set of rather plain almost antique silver from the 1920s. Both beautiful in their own ways. Now I don't know what to do with mine. No one to leave them to. I guess she will have to sell them, when I'm gone. She can use the money to buy something nice for her home in memory of me. But that's nice too.
ReplyDeleteYour rug is lovely. I love silk rugs like that. So much softer than wool. It has a beautiful design. I wish all mine were silk instead of wool.
Wow it's beautiful!! Perfect for this room.
