I fixed my Chinese tablescape with my set of Oriental dishes for eight I bought many years back, almost 30, in Bloomingdale's, NY City.
The dishes are mix and match as you see them here. I used gold place mats, red chargers and the Chinese dishes that are one of my very fav.
The soup bowls came with their own lid, which they can also be used on the side with the different sauces Chinese food has and for the deep fried veggies to dunk them in the sauces.. snacks, or spring rolls, etc.
We love to use these dishes when we have Chinese take out!..this way we can enjoy the things we have, instead later on the kids will, or might not even like them as we do...
Here is the other bowl without the lid so you can see how it looks.
I bought this elephant tea set, also several years ago and it came with eight elephant teacups and saucers, two elephant teapots and five decorative little elephants. The girl figurine is a pair with the other pretty one, they are both "holding birds in their hands"(lol) and they both have dangling bracelets...from four years ago.
Here is the other lady with a bird and dangling bracelets. The wooden Chinese tea chest was my Mil's.
My friend Francy said that classic Chinese sign in the dinner plate means "LONG LIFE" in Chinese..isn't it great! Thanks Francy.
The elephant teapot with a little boy on top of the lid..along with the elephant teacup and saucer..they're so cute!
Hubby and I know how to use the Chinese sticks, so I didn't set any other flatware on this one.
I used Chinese fans for under the flower vase.
The hand decorated Chinese Secretary in the background . |
The mud Foo-dog under a cloche in the Chinese Secretary top.
The row of little elephants came with the tea set.
The little elephant train also came with the tea set. Aren't the fingers on the girl exquisite?!
I did my Chinese tablescape in my vintage French table in the foyer. |
Your visits are one of the BEST things that happen to me in my days, so thanks a million for dropping by! Also thank you lovely and gracious hostesses for having me at your fabulous parties, I so enjoy linking too!

What a pretty setting for an Asian meal. A bit out of the usual, and such fun to try something different.
ReplyDeleteFabby, you always set such a pretty table! How nice that you've had those pretty dishes for 30 years. Your figurines are just darling and I love the tea set and the fans. You sure make Chinese take-out so very special.
ReplyDeleteVery nicely done, my friend! Hope you are well. Take care :) Greetings from Australia♥ ~Pernilla
ReplyDeleteThat sure is a colorful and interesting table! You're the champion at table-scaping in my opinion, Fabby. I couldn't BEGIN to come up with the detailed arrangements that you put together. I'm always amazed.
ReplyDeleteHope you've been well. Have a safe and happy weekend.
What beautiful pieces you have! The table looks amazing. And I couldn't help drooling over that gorgeous secretary I spy in the background, too. FABulous! Thanks so much for sharing.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Patti
Qué detalle interesante es ponerle tapa al recipiente para la sopa.
ReplyDeleteMis cariños Fabby en el Día del Amigo, vos virtualmente lo sos.
Hey, Fabby! I wondered where you were yesterday! Ramon has put me on a "rationed" use of the computer because he says I spend WAY too much time on here. He says it's "tough love." Ha! I'm using my time on the computer tonight to check up on people I missed yesterday on "Let's Dish!" and "Tablescape Thursday." I am so glad to see you here today!!! I am a big, big fan of beautifully done Asian-inspired tablescapes, and this one is a beauty!!! I didn't know the lids with those bowls were for sauces! I have seen those at a local market and couldn't figure out what the lids were for other than to keep the food warm. Thank you for letting us know that!!!!! That's such a good thing! I like how you used 2 different patterns but unified everything with your choice of placemats, chargers, and other elements. Very nice! Love the Foo dog, too! I used to be afraid of those for some weird reason (I'm strange!), but now I love them!!! I also really like the elephants! I have a collection of blue & white elephants that I bought a couple of years ago but have yet to use for anything. I like how yours look like a Mother and her babies. I also love your very pretty lady figurines. Very classic!!! Well, I'd better go now. I only have another 30 minutes of computer time left for today. Have a wonderful weekend!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteAs usual, a beautiful table with many beautiful elements, in a beautiful room - and beautiful pictures of family in the background.
ReplyDeleteI like the fans as part of the centerpiece, too. Very, very nice. Worth the wait!
Fabby, this is wonderful. I love the addition of the figures, especially the elephant train. Beautiful Asian feel. Glad you are back online.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful dishes, Fabby. With the gold mats and red chargers they really pop. The figurines are also very beautiful. Stunning table. xo
ReplyDeleteOoooooooooohhhhhhhh!!!! You are SO amazing!!!
ReplyDeleteGee I don't think I can remember everything to comment on it. I loved it all and looked at it twice. The dishes are gorgeous, like the lids on the bowls. The girls are exquisite like you said about their fingers-all of them are. The elephent teapot and cups and the little ones are so cute. That Chinese secretary though is out of this world. You have exquisite items-amazing. Definitely thank you for sharing...
ReplyDeleteI've always love Oriental elements of design, and you have assembled a wonderful collection. The elephant tea set is so unique. I'm always on the lookout for lidded rice bowls to work with my different Asian patterns. I'm quite drawn to them. Thanks of inviting us for a peak. Cherry Kay
ReplyDeleteI LOVE this table. I love Chinese inspired pieces. Those covered bowls are so unique! You are truly amazing. Martha Stewart has nothing on you Fabby! Have a good weekend!
ReplyDeleteFabby, your table is fabulous. I love all ove beautiful details that you've brought together. That elephant cup is adorable.
ReplyDeleteThe Chinese character on the plates is "Long Life", not "Love". Beautiful tablescape.
ReplyDeleteWas that your comment Francy? I do hope it's you! Sorry, you're right, I have such bad memory sometimes, and I love it that says "Long Life" even better. How are you? How's your husband doing? Hope all is well at home with you and yours.

ReplyDeleteCouldn't be better done.

ReplyDeleteAgain, another beautiful tablescape!!
Thanks so much for your visit to A Debbie-Dabble Christmas for the Christmas in July celebration!!

How gorgeous, Fabby! I love the sparkle those gold placemats add to the wonderful Chinese dishes. The covered soup bowls are SO pretty! Thank you for visiting my table -- I'm late returning the favor, as I was out of town for a few days.
ReplyDeleteHello dear Fabby....first, no, that was not me who left the comment about the translation of the word on the plate...I will always sign my name to my comments as Francy.....
ReplyDeleteSecond, I was really thrilled to see your post this time with the destination Beijing because one of my lovely daughters-in-law is from Beijing!! She has taught me a lot of the customs and foods from there
and her mother gifted me with a beautiful pashimira shawl for when Penny and my son visited us last Labor Day weekend...too pretty and special to use so I hung it over my small server in the dining room and dispalyed an antique Asian tea set one of my uncles brought to my grandmother before WWII, I, too, use Asian china in the dining room.
Your collection of china and all the accessories are really lovely and I especially loved the little elephant tea set...charming!! I like your figurines and the pretty bowls, the elephant train and, well, everything you used!!
Each time you make a tablescape it is simply beautiful, you always have just the right "eye" for the theme and you have such an array of gorgeous things to choose from to display.....
Thank you once again for a most colorful tablescape and a glimpse of your home.
Also, thank you for inquiring about my hubby, he is doing well since his surgery and returned to work today after a little over two months. He did amazingly well, and I appreciate your asking about him.
Wishing you a happy week...
Big hugs to a special lady!!
Love from Francy
Another of my "long-winded" comments! LOL
