FABBY: Hi-Yo Silver...away!

Hello sweet friends!

Alejandro is sick in bed with a bad cold, so while I've been a 'sweet nurse,' and the fact that I feel alone, as he's busy been sick, watching TV and working with his computer... I decided to get busy myself and started to look at all my dirty and dark-gray silver in the antique buffet.

I gathered them all and headed for the kitchen, determined to start my chore, Asap!

Here is my 'shining silver' after polishing it like a mad women...one and a half hours later!

All of a sudden I felt like screaming...hi-yo Silverrrrr...lol!

You all remember that great cowboy TV show from the 60's, 'The Lone Ranger,' who had a horse named 'Silver' and dad, my brothers and me never missed it, hehehe..

I also created a table for lunch tomorrow, when we'll be four, with my new 'balsa-wood' place mats. Balsa wood is very light weight and light in color, like a cream beige and there's a lot around here and there are very pretty products made from it as well.

I found these very pretty cut out place mats, which I know you would've bought them too, if you saw them.

They're made here, in Ecuador.

Ok, here goes my lovely silver.

The antique Belgium buffet had dirty, dark gray silver for so long; sadly displayed on top of it, as the last time I buffed and shined and polished them was last October for a dinner party...hehe..

I'm so happy and proud of my work so I wanted to share before I forget to shine them again... not that I loved doing it, either, lol!

Shining, ha!

This antique piece has a tier where I have the small silver and sterling heirlooms. The antique Dutch teaset is pewter, so no need to clean!

My lunch table for Monday. I used my 'Spanish country dishes, I haven't taken them out in a very long time.'

I loved these 'balsa-wood,' cut out place mats I bought the other day. I have eight of them. The painted finish is just like the 'Spanish country dishes' I used for this setting.

I know these dishes don't make a great contrast with the placemats, but I liked the softness of it, like 'beige on beige.'

I also made yesterday some 'Italian Anisette Cookies' hubby loves.
The recipe is at the end of this post.

I love the contrast the placemats make on the wood table.

Some of you know hubby bought this gorgeous vintage 'French' table a couple of weeks ago. In the back side board my new blue and white finds.

I'm still admiring the lovely carvings of the vintage French table, which is what made Alejandro decide on it.

The amber wine stems are 'Italian' and the water etched glasses are 'Bohemian-Czech Republic.'

Thank you so much for coming sweet friends, as you always make my day!

Thanking the gracious hostesses for having me at their great parties.

LOVE,
FABBY

Italian Anisette Cookies with Sprinkles

Ingredients:

Servings:

40
Units: US | Metric

COOKIE

ICING

Directions:

  1. 1
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Line cookie sheets with parchment paper.
  2. 2
For cookies, cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy, about 5 minutes. Add eggs, one at a time, mixing after each addition. Add anise extract.
  3. 3
Blend flour and baking powder. Start by adding about 1/3 of these dry ingredients to the butter/sugar in your mixer, then add 1 T. milk. Add another third of the flour and another 1 T. milk. Finally, mix in enough of the remaining flour until your dough is like a brownie batter (it should be softer than a drop cookie dough).
  4. 4
Use a 1 T. cookie scooper to make simple round drop cookies - use wet fingers to pat any rough edges OR for an Easter-Egg look, roll 1 T. dough into an elongated ball.
  5. 5
Bake cookies 10-12 minutes (they won't be brown but the insides will be soft and cake-like).
  6. 6
For icing: mix sugar, milk and extract to make a sugar glaze. HINT: When I make the icing, I make it thick but then I microwave it for 10 seconds so it is thin enough for dipping. Also, I like to divide the mixture in thirds, and then add ONE DROP of food coloring to each batch (pink, green, yellow).
  7. 7
Hold cookie in your hand and turn upside down so you can dip the top half in the glaze; turn over and immediately top with sprinkles so they will stick.
  8. 8
Allow icing to harden overnight; then store in air-tight containers or freeze.

  4. Good Morning Fabby, Your silverware is beautiful and now that it is all shiny and bright, it looks spectactular. I remember the Lone Ranger....it was a television programme which we watched when I was a small girl.
Fabby, as always your table looks beautiful. I really love the balsa wood placemats and yes I would buy them if I saw them. The photograph which you took from above, makes the placemats look almost delicate.
Can I ask you, what is the name of your cutlery.... I love it, it is so beautiful.
Thank you for the recipe for Anisette Cookies, I am really looking forward to baking them.
I do hope Alejandro feels better soon.
    Have a wonderful week.

  6. You crack me up! I would have said more than Hi Ho silver if I had of polished all that! LOL! Love it though. But I am in love with your tablescape. The placemats are so different and I love different. Of course I love those dishes but I truly adore how you placed the cups with silverware together like that! I am always learning...and pinning away! Hugs and blessings, Cindy

  7. Dearest Fabby,
What a job for cleaning all the silver ware. We need to shine ours as well... Loving silver is one thing but it takes quite some work for keeping it look lovely!
Your Balsa wood placemats are very elegant.
Hope your husband's cold is a lot less at the moment.
I myself am like an invalid, my back hurts from a cold in the hot sun and perspiring... The change from outdoor to inside at times makes us pay for it! Hope in one more day I will be flexible and supple again! Need to do a lot of work ahead.
Hugs and happy final July days.

  10. Alejandro has such exquisite taste! Can he come here and teach Ramon? I don't think Ramon would know a good piece of furniture if it bit him on the nose! :-)

You set quite a lovely table, my dear! The wood of the placemats is so delicate and light. Nothing like anything I've seen here. The way the placemat is cut really does look like lace!

Gorgeous table, and your silver is shining like a new dime! I know it's a pain to clean it, but it feels SO good when you're done and everything is gleaming!!! I do mine 3 times a year, and that's enough to make me crazy...but it looks SO good!!!

    Have a beautiful week!

Your spanish yellow dishes are so pretty, made me smile! My husband does oldtime radio reproductions and they do Lone Ranger. Fun to watch grown men making galloping sounds by beating plungers on their chest.Alan always plays Tonto.

Your silver is glistening and looks so pretty, not an easy feat cleaning silver, I dislike the job but love the outcome.
Your new placemats are beautiful and I think they they look perfect on
your new table, a beauty by the way. Would never have thought they
    were balsa wood.
A lovely tablescape as well. Also loved the view out the window.

  26. You made and excellent choice purchasing that dining table and chairs plus buffet. I love the placemats and the beige dishes because it is soft not a bold color. I really, really, really, really enjoyed the scene through your windows. What a scenic view! Nice job doing the polishing of silver. I'm so proud of you doing this while earning your nurse's cap taking care of your sweet hubby.

Fabby, Your beautiful antique Belgium buffet looks fabulous sporting it's freshly polished display of silver and your new blue and white finds are lovely displayed on the sideboard behind the luncheon table. The balsa wood placemats are a wonderful find, a beautiful contrast to the wood finish on the table your sweet Alejandro gave to you. The graceful legs and and beautiful carving on this lovely table are certainly something to admire. I do hope the Italian cookies and the the pretty table setting helped your hubby feel better.
